Speak English, people! says British politician

12/14/2012

OK, immigrants, if someone welcomes you to your new country, you'd best be able to say "thank you" in English. Ed Miliband, the leader of Britain's Labour Party, says that every citizen should know how to speak English, and he'd like to make learning the language a priority for every new Briton. "We can only converse if we can speak the same language," he says. "We should expect that of people that come here. We will work together as a nation far more effectively when we can … talk together." Miliband says that he's confident that immigrants can still maintain "their cultural roots," even if they have to explain their background using English words. [Source]
