Lawmaker apologizes for bashing bicycles and all their pollution
3/4/2013Remember how Washington State Rep. Ed Orcutt (R-Kalama) said bikes are bad for the environment because they can cause cyclists to give off more carbon dioxide via increased heart rate and respiration? (Yeah, it makes no sense to us, either.) Well, Orcutt's comments drew some negative attention, and now he's — OK, pun intended — backpedaling. Orcutt apologized in an email to the Seattle Bike Blog and The Seattle Times, writing, "I have always recognized that bicycling emits less carbon than cars, I see I did a poor job of indicating that within my e-mail. My point was that by not driving a car, a cyclist was not necessarily having a zero-carbon footprint. … I apologize." [Source]
