Woman dies after spending 42 years in a coma
11/24/2012Edwarda O’Bara, a coma patient whose devoted family became an inspiration for many, died on Wednesday. O’Bara, 59, was comatose for over four decades. She became seriously ill with diabetes as a teenager, but before losing consciousness asked her mother Kaye to never leave her side. She never did, until her death in 2008, at which point Edwarda’s sister Colleen quit her job to become a full-time caregiver and fulfill their mother’s promise. Her story inspired Wayne Dyer’s book "A Promise Is A Promise: An Almost Unbelievable Story of a Mother’s Unconditional Love and What It Can Teach Us." [Source]
