Solar-powered Elf vehicles are way better than 'Hobbit' or Santa elves

Feeling bad about your carbon footprint but too wimpy to bike uphill? Check out the Elf, a new vehicle that's half bike, half solar-powered car (dubbed a "velomobile," if you're interested). Sure, the $4,000 three-wheeled hybrid gizmo looks a little weird, but it allows you to pedal on those relaxing straightaways and fire up its solar-powered electric motor when the going gets tough. The Elf, the brainchild of North Carolina-based Rob Cotter's Organic Transit, can carry up to 350 pounds of cargo (imagine spotting these in the supermarket).
