Donald Tremblay didn't just desert the Marines: eventually, he deserted Donald, too. After years of soul-searching, Tremblay, who left the Marines in 1981, underwent hormone therapy and became Elizabeth. But when a sheriff's deputy showed up at her door in Poland, Maine, it was to arrest the private who 31 years ago told his superiors he was going home, upset that a promised assignment was changed.
