Embezzling woman jailed for spending $10M on lavish life
6/21/2012Patricia Smith, 58, will have to adjust to a life without luxury after she was sentenced to 78 months in prison and three years' probation for stealing $10 million over seven years from the Pennsylvania car dealership she worked for. The former bookkeeper was also ordered to pay restitution of the millions she funneled into her own account, a haul averaging about $4,000 a day. Reports say Smith was hoping for a light sentence for spending her employer's cash on travel (including private jet charters), houses and cars. She also enjoyed unique purchases and experiences, such as a signed first edition of a "Harry Potter" volume and dinner with actor Kevin Spacey.
