Poor Emily Marsh. The 13-year-old from London got the hiccups in January on the way to math class, and she's been hiccuping every two seconds ever since, stopping only when she's in a deep sleep. She's tried everything — holding her breath, having someone scare her, a spoonful of vinegar (which she said was awful), drinking backward, hypnotherapy and osteopathy — but nothing has worked. Doctors say these chronic hiccups are extremely rare and that the drugs used on adults may not be suitable for her. The longest known case of chronic hiccups lasted for 68 years, a tidbit that Emily, who's been at it for almost 10 weeks, probably does not find very comforting. [Source]
