This is how overly polite Englishmen handle a disagreement

1/23/2013

This video. This video, in its simplicity, is the epitome of Englishness. The stubborn, headstrong belief in mission. The unshakeable civility in the face of an unpleasantness. (Stiff upper lip!) The aversion to direct confrontation. The remarkable display of passive-aggressive behavior. The silent judging. The slog. Always, the slog. This row in Dover between neighbors is about garbage. It is about whose side of the street the garbage belongs on for pick-up. It shows two grown men silently moving the bags of garbage from one side of the street to the other, two Englishmen passing each other in a task of futility. This went on for a half-hour. God Save the Queen.
