Couple who got rich in popcorn butter lawsuit now bankrupt
10/17/2012A Missouri couple who won a $20 million judgment against the manufacturer of butter flavoring used at a popcorn plant have filed for bankruptcy just eight years after claiming their money. Eric and Cassandra Peoples filed papers that outline more than $600,000 in debts, and as a result, say they have to sell their $3.9 million home that sits on 10.5 acres. The Peoples successfully sued International Flavors and Fragrances Inc. and Bush Boake Allen Inc. after Eric, who worked at the popcorn plant, developed an irreversible lung disease that would require him to eventually undergo a double lung transplant, according to doctors.
