A meteorologist has vowed never to fly again — and not because some airline lost his luggage. Eric Holthaus, who has written about weather for the Wall Street Journal and Quartz, made the promise Friday via Twitter after a somber climate-change report brought him to tears. The report, released the same day by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, found it “extremely likely” that humans are causing warming trends seen over the last several decades. The panel also upped its estimates of sea level increases expected to occur by the end of this century. After reading the report, Holthaus tweeted that he has decided to forgo flying to reduce his carbon footprint — the same reason he said he became a vegetarian. He also said he has decided not to have children to reduce his carbon footprint even further and is considering a vasectomy. [Source]
