Man pushed in front of subway was targeted due to religion, cops say
12/30/2012When Erika Menendez allegedly pushed Sunando Sen in front of an oncoming subway train in Queens, New York, on Thursday evening, it wasn't just a random act of violence. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown summarized Menendez’s remarks to police as, “I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they put down the twin towers I’ve been beating them up.” Sen was an immigrant from India and was raised Hindu, according to a roommate, who said the two often discussed religion. Menendez has been charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison. [Source]
