ESPN bans sports talk from its own Twitter feed in wake of shooting
12/15/2012In light of the tragic events in Newtown, Conn., ESPN instructed its talent to refrain from tweeting about sports until noon on Sunday. The news came down from ESPN senior vice president and executive producer Mark Gross in an email to the company, whose headquarters is about 30 miles from Newtown. In addition to not tweeting about sports, anchors and reporters were told to avoid using the word "shooter" in relation to athletes; they were also instructed to acknowledge the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary shooting at the beginning of any broadcasts and highlight prominent sports figures who were using social media to send out condolences to the victims.
