11/17/2012Ever wondered what a $30,000 Scrabble board looks like? Here it is. We were expecting maybe some gold-and-diamond inlay or tiles inked with dragon's blood, but it turns out that this platinum-card version of the family game is actually pretty boring, at least from a visual perspective. The carbon-fiber board was made especially for the Prague Mind Sports Festival, and it's purpose-built to broadcast the game to a worldwide audience online. "225 RFID sensors underneath each square that detect the presence of tiles with corresponding RFID sensors." Pretty cool, but isn't that a job an intern could do, for significantly less money?
