They see you: Stores using mannequins with hidden cameras
11/20/2012Ever been creeped out by the fear that store mannequins are secretly checking you out? They just might be. Almax, an Italian mannequin company, has introduced the EyeSee, a mannequin with a camera in one eye that tracks passers-by. The voyeuristic mannequins are connected to facial recognition software commonly used by law enforcement that logs age, gender and race. Benetton is reportedly among one of five companies using "a few dozen" of the spooky dummies, which are being used to capture data on the habits of shoppers, and, presumably to catch shoplifters. Critics are concerned about the very Orwellian invasiveness of the cameras, though their use is legal. [Source]

Should these mannequins be legal?
