'F-bomb' and 'sexting' break into the mainstream dictionary
8/14/2012If you were ever unsure about the proper way to use the word “f-bomb,” fear not: Soon you can just look it up in the dictionary. Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary is adding the word, among others, to their annual update. The person we can thank for legitimizing it is associate editor Kory Stamper, who traced “f-bomb” back to 1988 but said it didn’t really take off until Dick Cheney dropped the f-bomb in 2004, and when Joe Biden did the same thing in 2010. "It's a word that is very visually evocative. It's not just the f-word. It's f-bomb," she said. Other words that made the list this year: sexting, flexitarian and energy drink. [Source]
