Internet dummies probably made 'Facebook' 2012's top Wikipedia page
12/28/2012In 2012 the Wikipedia entry for "Facebook" was looked at more than 32.6 million times, according to number-crunching Swedish computer science student Johan Gunnarsson. But it probably wasn't people's curiosity about the social network that made it more popular than any other site on the online encyclopedia. It's more likely that "Internet novices" who don't know what they're doing typed "Facebook" into their browser's address bar and wound up on Wikipedia instead of on Facebook.com. Either that, or there were a lot of folks doing their research ahead of the company's much-hyped IPO earlier in the year. [Source]
