Facebook post could get two convicted murderers out of jail
7/31/2012A Facebook post on a Detroit high school alumni page has led to a new trial for two brothers who have served 25 years for murder. "All I said was it's too bad … that [Raymond and Thomas Highers] are in prison for life," Mary Evans said of her 2009 post. "That started this domino effect." Subsequent posts revealed new details about the murder of Robert Karey, the crime that sent the Highers to prison. Four witnesses — who were all in high school that night in 1987 — testified that they were buying drugs from Karey when several armed black men "ordered them to leave." Based on that information, a judge overturned the Highers' convictions; they'll remain in jail until a mid-August hearing. [Source]
