Fail Whale artist hides QR code traps in illustrations
6/6/2012The artist behind Twitter's iconic Fail Whale has just released a new project which hides a QR code in her latest set of illustrations — glamorous models enmeshed with carnivorous plants. Scan the QR code embedded in Yiying Lu's hand-illustrated plant-slash-hat, and you'll be directed to a Vimeo film showing how the Australian artist creates her work — frame by painstaking frame. Seven plants are featured in this set of drawings: Rafflesia Arnoldii, Sundew, Voodoo Lily, Venus Flytrap, Sarracenia Leucophylla, Nepenthes Truncata and Nepenthes Rafflesianaan. Something tells us, though, that the "Beautiful Traps" title applies to the violet-eyed models shown intertwined with the plants as much as the vegetation itself.
