School approves $35K playground, then decides it's unsafe for kids

2/11/2013

Hey, kids, check out this new playground equipment and — not so fast! The only thing allowed on this $35,000 Virginia jungle gym is a roll of caution tape. Even though more than 1,200 of these Evos-brand "play structures" are scattered on playgrounds across the country, and even though the purchase was OK'd by Fairfax County Public Schools, the school system says it's just too dangerous. The question is now what to do with it, since it would cost taxpayers more than $130,000 to remove it and replace it with a giant ball of cotton or whatever. "We are currently working with school officials to consider options to … renovate the playground," a school spokesman said. That sounds like fun. [Source]
