Here's hoping kids who enjoy fast food also enjoy asthma and allergies

1/16/2013

Kids who eat a lot of fast food aren't just more likely to have bigger waistlines. They're also more likely to have a bigger risk of developing asthma and allergies. A study of 500,000 children and teens published in the journal Thorax found that chowing down on three or more fast food meals a week boosted a child's risk of developing severe asthma by 27 percent, perhaps because all the saturated fat in those pizzas and burgers can make children's immune systems more sensitive. On the bright side, eating three or more servings of fruit a week caused severe asthma symptoms in children to decrease by 11 percent. [Source]
