The tale of the ancient marathoner ends with final race in Hong Kong
2/25/2013Fauja Singh, the world's oldest marathon runner, finished his last race on Sunday. The 101-year-old Singh ran the 10-kilometer event at the Hong Kong Marathon, completing the 6.2-mile race in 1 hour, 32 minutes and 28 seconds. The "Turbaned Torpedo," as he is also known, began running marathons at the age of 89 to help him cope with the deaths of his wife and son. Just after crossing the finish line in Hong Kong, Singh said, "I will remember this day. I will miss it," before adding that he hopes to continue to be invited to running events. Here’s hoping Singh is trading his sneakers for a pair of slippers and readying himself for the world's most well-deserved nap. He's earned a break. [Source]
