Employee reprimanded for creating hostile work atmosphere by farting

12/22/2012

His farts float like a butterfly, but the smell stings like a bee. Call him Gassius Clay. That's how colleagues of one Social Security Administration employee felt about their 38-year-old co-worker's "uncontrollable flatulence." So much so, they reported him to supervisors, who issued a formal — yes, that means official — reprimand for farting too much at work. The five-page letter included a log (!) of the dates and times his "releasing the awful and unpleasant odor" was recorded. His Herculean farting constituted "conduct unbecoming a federal officer" that made the workplace intolerable and hostile, the report said. The man, who was repeatedly warned, said he had a medical condition that made his gas difficult to control. [Source]
