Baumgartner did not drop to Earth at speed claimed — he fell faster
2/6/2013Felix Baumgartner definitely did not freefall 128,100 feet through space at a top speed of 833 miles per hour as originally claimed. While it's been revealed that the distance he dropped was actually 246.7 feet less than we were led to believe, he did that distance faster than the original figures suggested. Ten miles per hour faster, in fact. The Austrian daredevil reached a cheek-rippling 843.6 miles per hour, according to new analysis of the data. For that reason alone, we're resisting the urge to dub Baumgartner the Lance Armstrong of the sky — for now. [Source]
