Fired lifeguard becomes hero, remains super cute
7/10/2012Ex-Florida lifeguard Tomas Lopez can hang the key to Hallandale Beach city next to his old lifeguard whistle. The selfless hero made headlines last week after he was fired for saving Maksim Samartsev from drowning because the man was outside his coverage zone. But yesterday Lopez was honored by the mayor with a key to the city, and he shook hands with Samartsev, who thanked him heartily for saving his life. In his now-familiar, humble manner, Lopez said he was honored, but any of his fellow guards would have made the same decision. "A stupid rule over someone's life?" he asked, "It's a pretty obvious choice."
What would you have done if you were in Lopez's position?
