Fitness trainer purposely packs on 70 pounds, loses 70
6/5/2012Trainer Drew Manning wasn't having as much luck motivating his out-of-shape clients as he wanted, so the sculpted fitness buff took drastic measures to better identify with their struggles: He gained 70 pounds, which he then promptly lost again in six months thanks to a rigorous workout plan. Manning's wife said he believed people either wanted to be in shape or didn't, but it wasn't until he experienced the mental as well as physical effects of being overweight, such as lethargy and low self-esteem, that he really understood the challenges. "The key is the mental and emotional issues," he said. "I realized those issues are real." Time to dust off that gym bag.
Does a stunt like this create unrealistic expectations for overweight people?
