Woman accidentally buys Renoir for less than $50 at flea market
9/9/2012Some people really know how to bargain hunt. An anonymous woman in Virginia, who bought an old painting at a flea market for under $50 a while back, may be facing quite a return on her investment. Turns out the shabby piece was likely splattered together by a fairly notable guy named Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The art, which had come in a box with a doll and some other junk, sat in a trash bag near the garage for over a year before the unidentified woman pulled it out to replace it (she'd only bought it for the frame). Experts now believe it's a lost work titled "Paysage Bords de Seine” and will sell for up to $100,000. [Source]
