Problems at polls kept 49,000 Florida voters away, report says

12/30/2012

Florida, Florida, Florida … You're like that stepchild who just can't seem to get his act together. After a year that included citizens riding manatees and stealing bras, cops moving mattresses with patrol cars, and a governor accidentally offering a sex hotline instead of meningitis info, the Sunshine State has rounded out 2012 by confirming an earlier bureaucratic failing: voter suppression. A new report indicates as many as 49,000 voters did not cast ballots, due to the ballot length, long lines and the number of early voting days. Gov. Rick Scott initially denied the issues but has since acknowledged the problems, though based on voter projections, those votes would not have changed the outcome. Twitter user @berkelaw perhaps summed it up best: "When does FLA start being embarrassed by itself?" [Source]
