Attention is turning to mandatory paid sick time laws as an exceptionally pernicious flu season strikes the nation. New York City is considering a proposal requiring sick leave, for instance, and though opponents say it's poor economic timing to add a burden to employers, proponents say workers with no sick time spread contagious illness at work, send sick kids to school and clog the hospital emergency rooms.
