Teen chef whips up 18-course meals, makes us feel like kitchen losers
1/28/2013You probably wouldn't spend $160 for a meal cooked by most 14-year-olds, but you might if the teen chef is Flynn McGarry. The California culinary whiz began cooking seriously when he was 11, and now he's got legions of fans willing to fork over big bucks for monthly 18-course meals at his family home. (His parents let him turn his bedroom into a test kitchen.) On Jan. 30, McGarry will showcase his talents for 40 gourmets at BierBeisl in Beverly Hills, whipping up a 12-course meal that will start with a sunchoke confit appetizer made of "a smoked sunchoke puree, with yogurt and dehydrated grapefruit, topped with sunflower seeds." You know, just a typical after-school snack for a hungry teen. [Source]
