Football recruit turned hitless minor leaguer is a real sad Shaq
7/21/2012
The few fans who attend the high-noon rookie-level games in the Gulf Coast League have to be rooting for Shaq Thompson, unless they're the kind of folks who cackled while frying spiders with a magnifying glass as kids. The University of Washington football recruit is playing baseball this summer after the Red Sox made him their 18th-round draft pick and the highlights so far include: seven walks, plus a ground out to the first baseman—two weeks ago. In each of his other 36 at bats, Thompson has struck out. That's right—one fair ball in 44 trips to the plate. Makes you wonder: Shouldn't he be named "Rudy" instead of "Shaq?" [Source]
