Vatican slams 'gay scandal' rumors but stops short of denying them
2/23/2013The Vatican is so mad at the media right now. A spokesman attacked press accounts that Pope Benedict XVI resignation was linked to a damning internal report into homosexual activity and financial mismanagement among senior church officials. "Those who consider money, sex and power before all else ... are unable to see anything else" said Father Frederico Lombardi, in an editorial comment on Vatican Radio. However, critics have pointed out that this is unlikely to end the discussion because it was one of those non-denial denials. Lombardi neither confirmed nor denied the existence — or the content — of a 300-page report by three cardinals, which allegedly concluded that senior churchmen were consistently breaking the sixth and seventh commandments, committing adultery and stealing.
