'Freedom fighter' Madonna won't cancel Russian show
3/21/2012Madonna won't cave to pressure to cancel a summer concert in Russia, because of a new law that prohibits homosexual "propaganda," but, instead, says she will express her views about the law during the show. The law, passed March 7, seeks to ban information that might lead minors to view traditional and nontraditional relationships as equal. In a statement, Madonna calls herself a "freedom fighter" and says, "I will come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed." We're all for standing up against discrimination, but thinking of Madge as a "freedom fighter" just feels a bit ... off.
Will speaking out be more effective than a boycott?
