French stench no longer confined by borders, spreads to UK

1/23/2013

A le stinky stink of international proportions has spread over 220 miles from France as far as England. In this instance, the source of the noxious smell is a chemical plant in Rouen in the country's northwest. An overabundance of the chemical mercaptan — used to give gas its easily detectable smell — is the cause of what Paris police have described as a blend of "sweat, garlic and rotten eggs." While generally harmless, the leak is being blamed for a spate of nausea, irritation and migraines among locals. So unpleasant is the emission, a French Cup soccer match in Rouen had to be cancelled. Sacre bleu! [Source]
