French police seize 26,000 pounds of tiny Eiffel Towers
4/15/2012French police have seized 26,000 pounds of miniature Eiffel Towers. Yes, you read that correctly -- 13 tons of tiny Eiffel Towers, rather than cocaine or heroin, and in quantity enough to equal eight Chevy Malibus in weight. Although one might guess it was because the French are disgusted with the pervasiveness of the tacky souvenirs or the cheapening of an established cultural relic, etc., it was actually a simple case of permitting problems. The proprietors had been under surveillance for months for illegally selling the towers at tourist hubs like the Louvre and the actual Eiffel Tower. Paris police say the clandestine business takes in about $1.31 million a year from the tourist treasures.
What would you do with 13 tons of miniature Eiffel Towers?
