'Friday Night Lights' author wants to ban college football
5/6/2012Buzz Bissinger, the author of "Friday Night Lights," wants to cut the power on college football. Bissinger wrote in a Wall Street Journal editorial that he has "yet to hear a convincing argument" that college football has anything to do with academics, saying it benefits wealthy coaches and "alumni who absurdly judge the quality of their alma mater based on the quality of the football team." Maybe Buzz is just upset that his beloved University of Pennsylvania Quakers only went 5-5 last season, but he's angry enough that he'll debate the point Tuesday against former NFL player Tim Green and sports columnist Jason Whitlock, with the help of author Malcolm Gladwell, who never met a lectern he didn't like.
