Man celebrates death of rusted, decrepit car with huge funeral
8/6/2012It was a fitting sendoff for a true automotive warrior. New York resident Harry Ettling's sky-blue 1982 Honda Civic "Bluey" was more than just a 30-year-old rusty bucket of bolts. It was a Inwood neighborhood icon. So when Bluey, which didn't have much blue left on it all, finally bit the dust with 170,000 miles, Ettling and his neighbors organized a funeral procession complete with a Dixieland band. (See three pictures above.) Bluey had survived both being totaled and overturned in 1992s Washington Heights riots, but ultimately, it was Ettling's fear that his foot would go through the floorboard that made him decide to retire his ride. He's holding off on a new car though, saying right now, he needs "time to heal." [Source]
