Woman in labor delays hospital trip so she can vote for the first time

11/6/2012

Galicia Malone was excited about voting for the first time. Nothing was going to stop the 21-year-old Chicago-area woman from casting her ballot. Not even giving birth. Malone was so determined to vote that when she went into labor at 3 a.m. today, she refused to go to the hospital until after her polling station opened and she could cast her ballot. As she worked on her ballot, Malone was having contractions every five minutes, reminding herself to keep breathing. After casting her ballot, Malone drove herself to a hospital and gave birth to a daughter. That’s democracy in contraction, folks. [Source]
