Gambling granny allegedly drains grandson's college fund
6/8/2012We know the following is sad, but if you leave a known gambler as the sole trustee of a college fund, you shouldn't be completely surprised if they take the money and run. That's what police allege 73-year-old Edna Sue Pate did: drain her grandson's college trust, before going on the lam. In 2003, a lawyer in Griffith, Ind., whom Pate had been a nurse for died, and his estate established a $100,000 trust for her grandson. Pate allegedly drained most of the trust, losing most of it gambling. When the boy's father tried to contact Pate last year about the account, as the boy was near graduating, he discovered she had disappeared.
