'Gangnam Style' is the first video to hit 1 billion YouTube views
12/22/2012In July, PSY was barely known outside of his native South Korea (Korean rappers don’t exactly scream "International Recording Star"). Then he dropped the video for "Gangnam Style," and pretty much won the Internet this year. Want proof? Today, the hyper, frenetic clip with super-awesome dance moves became the first video to hit 1 billion views on YouTube. Suck on that, Bieber. The video, which was posted to the site July 15, hit the historic mark at 10:50 a.m. ET, which YouTube celebrated by placing a little dancing PSY next to the view count, while the rest of us are, of course, celebrating with that now-iconic horsey dance.
