Genius 13-year-old invents lollipops that stop hiccups
5/5/2012In the summer of 2010, Mallory Kievman, now 13, had an indefatigable case of the hiccups. She tried everything she could think of -- imbibing saltwater, drinking water upside down, eating a spoonful of sugar. The fitful episodes were also fateful, because they led to the creation of her first business: Hiccupops, lollipops that stop hiccups. The Connecticut teen won an invention contest last spring, and has a patent pending on her creation. Now, she'll lead a group of M.B.A. students in creating a start-up around her product, a combination of her favorite hiccup remedies -- lollipops, apple cider vinegar and sugar -- that she created in her family's kitchen.
