When all else fails to cure drug addicts, a doctor in Siberia has another method: Beat the crap out of them. Dr. German Pilipenko's controversial new technique, which he calls a "breakthrough," involves administering searing whips and lashes to his patients' buttocks to help them overcome issues like sex and drug addiction, obsessions and depression. The idea, he says, is to trigger the release of endorphins — AKA "happiness hormones" — which many addicts lack. This, he believes, should eliminate their need for vices.
