German police used just 85 bullets in 2011
5/12/2012Today's amazing statistic: German cops fired only 85 bullets in 2011, and 49 of those were warning shots. Of the 36 shots fired at suspects, 15 people were injured and 6 were killed. The Atlantic Wire gathered the figures and contrasted them to police shooting stats the United States, where officers have track records of firing off that many rounds in one shift. In Los Angeles, for example, 90 shots were fired at a fleeing, unarmed man. In Harlem, 84 bullets were sprayed at a lone murder suspect. And those were both just last month. The U.S. population is just shy of four times that of Germany, but clearly far more likely to set guns a-blazin'.
What does this stat tell you about the US?
