Poor Germans can't watch Russian meteor vid thanks to song-rights flap2/21/2013
Germans who've been trying to watch the Russian meteorite video are finding themselves in the middle of a rights battle. GEMA, the main German performance-rights organization, wants a "per stream rate" of $0.005 for the song playing on the car radio in the background of said meteorite video. YouTube is saying "nein," which means nobody's winning. More than 60 percent of the top 1,000 YouTube videos are unavailable in Germany because of similar disputes. Think of all the cat videos Germany is being deprived of because someone had to use "Single Ladies" in the background. [Source]
