Research shows girls throw differently from boys
9/12/2012Psychologists have confirmed what everyone who ever went to gym class already knows: Girls throw like girls. The difference is that this research, first noted by Jerry Thomas of the University of North Texas, gives real-life reasons why people with two X-chromosomes wouldn't throw like their XY-ed counterparts. Girls (and women) throw with their arms, a movement that looks like they're tossing darts, while boys use their entire bodies, rotating their hips and shoulders separately. That's the issue in a (poorly thrown) nutshell: Women can’t generate equal power and velocity, because they rotate their bodies in one piece. "I'd bet my bottom dollar there's [a neurological reason]," Thomas said. "It's the nervous system." [Source]
