Utility company gives power pole gnomes a reprieve

1/30/2013

Hands off our gnomes! The good people of Oakland, Calif., like the little portraits of gnomes on six-inch blocks of wood that adorn utility poles in their city, so that's where they'll stay. For now. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will permit the gnome portraits to remain where they are — for the time being — after a public outcry when the company announced some 2,000 portraits would be removed. A PG&E spokesperson said they were meeting with the anonymous artist behind the whimsical street art and a member of the city council to discuss relocating the gnomes. "We'll keep them where people can enjoy them," promised the spokesperson. [Source]
