Dead man with $7M in gold in garage proves you can't take it with you
9/18/2012This is another of those sad stories where nobody notices someone has died until heady wafts of eau de corpse stop traffic on the street outside their house. But the story of Walter Samasko Jr. has a bizarre twist. After a clean-up of his home in Carson City, NV, a cousin he hadn't spoken to in a year realized she stood to inherit much more than the $200 in his bank account when officials found a swag of gold in his garage so voluminous it had to be carted out to a truck by wheelbarrow. Gold coins from Mexico, England and South Africa dating back to 1872 and a number of gold bars were found, totaling an estimated $7 million. His cousin Arlene Magdanz, a substitute teacher who'll inherit the lot, said of the find: "Oh, my God. Oh, my God." Seems appropriate. [Source]
