Sorry, strippers, but we might have to start throwing $1 coins at you
11/29/2012That crumpled wad of dollar bills in your coat pocket could become a collectors' item if the Government Accountability Office gets its way. The GAO, a nonpartisan, investigative arm of Congress, has a hearing today to attempt to get the U.S. Mint to abandon paper dollar bills and replace them with $1 coins. Switching to coins, it says, could save the government $4.4 billion over the next 30 years because, although they're more expensive to produce at first, coins last almost seven times as long as their paper counterparts.
