OK, so maybe not everything about the government shutdown is terrible: A KKK rally that was supposed to be held at the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania had to be canceled because of it. A Maryland-based chapter of the sheet-loving hate group had applied for — and had been granted — a permit for a gathering that would've been held on the historic Civil War battlefield on Saturday. Park officials had to defend their willingness to issue a permit to the KKK, telling NBC 10 that "they have a responsibility to make the land available for citizens to exercise their right to freedom of speech, even if the views expressed are contrary to those of most Americans." This same group, the Confederate White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, recently held a membership drive at Antietam National Battlefield. [Source]
