Greed is no longer good, Michael Douglas says
2/28/2012"[Wall Street] was fiction," intones a very serious Michael Douglas in this just-released public service announcement. "The problem is real." The problem is financial fraud, and in an unlikely play on his now-iconic "Wall Street" character, duplicitous financier Gordon Gekko, Douglas stars in a PSA warning against the dangers of insider trading and securities fraud -- you know, the very activities that made Gekko rich.
It's hard to imagine this clip being played to the Wall Street guys who'd be in a position to supply damning information on criminal misdeeds to the feds -- surely they're too busy buying million-dollar apartments or undermining democracy. But give Douglas credit for instructing viewers "to contact your local FBI office" for information on how to identify security fraud with a straight face.
Is greed good?
