Phoenix mayor scrimps and pinches while living on food stamps
9/26/2012Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton spent seven days scarfing down plastic foam cups of ramen noodles and discounted chicken while trying to limit his grocery bill to $29 for the week. That's the amount allotted to anyone on the government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, informally known as food stamps. "It's only for a week," he wrote on Facebook. "If I were doing this with no end in sight, I probably wouldn’t be so pleasant." Stanton's experiment was part of Hunger Awareness Month and an attempt to better understand the decisions facing "people living in difficult circumstances." We'd high-five him for his efforts, especially since we would've blown our $4.19 daily budget on pumpkin spice lattes. [Source]
